- How do I choose a dress that's just right for me?
The cut, the fit, the style, your personality, the fabric, family traditions, culture - all these things must be considered when choosing a dress.
Bridal gowns also vary greatly in quality. Some dresses look exactly the same in the picture, but in reality the construction, the quality of the beading, the color and shading, the detail, and how it compliments your figure are very different.
The bridal magazines and web sites are a good start, but just like shopping for any special occasion, the only way to find the perfect dress is to come into the boutique and try them on!
In sum, buying a dress should be a joyful occasion. We recommend bringing along friends and family and let everyone share in what is a fun, exciting and special event.
- What about accessories like veils and tiaras?
Just like buying a complete outfit, buying a wedding dress also can mean finding a veil that compliments the dress, a tiara that shines and sparkles, and shoes that perfectly offsets the rest.
We also have jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and headpieces, and even special purses.
The combinations are endless!
- Why not just buy a dress online? Some of the prices are really low.
In short: you have to weigh saving some money against the importance of your wedding day.
We've seen brides come in with dresses that are poor copies of the original. It can look the same in a picture, but in reality be made of lower-quality fabric, plastic beading instead of real Swarovski crystals, and poor construction. There is usually a "no refund" policy as well.
And sometimes the alterations needed are so extensive that they'd have been better off buying a much nicer dress in person!
A wedding is a very special occasion, and there's nothing like seeing the selection in person, feeling the fabric, checking the quality, and having an experienced person work with you to make you feel relaxed, comfortable, and confident you're getting the perfect dress.
- How long does the whole process of buying a dress take?
For a wedding dress we ask for six (6) to eight (8) months. The dress typically comes in four to five (4 - 5) months but we we like that extra month for alterations or any changes you may want made to the dress.
For bridesmaids, flowergirls, special occasions, and mother of the bride we ask for four (4) months. Once again the dress takes three to four (3 - 4) months to come in and one (1) month for alterations.
- Can a dress be ordered in a shorter time?
Yes. You can pay for a rush or super-rush delivery of a dress.
A rush can be eight to ten (8 - 10) weeks and a super-rush as little as six to eight (6 - 8) weeks. There is an added fee which depends on the manufacturer.
- What if my wedding is less than six (6) weeks away?
You do have the option to purchase directly off the rack, but this does limit your choices. Our selection is quite varied, so you may be able to find a dress that works just right for you.
Occasionally, but it is rare, manufacturers have in stock the dress that you want in the size and color you want. We are always willing to call the manufacturer to find out.
- I have bridesmaids that live out of town. What should I do? Can I order them at different times?
When dresses are manufactured at different times, the color can change slight due to the way the dyes are mixed, due to temperature, humidity, and more.
We STRONGLY recommend ordering all of the bridesmaids dresses at the same time to ensure that the dresses will all have the exact same shade of color.
- What information do I need to give you to order the bridesmaids dresses?
You give us their information as you get it, and we'll collect it in one folder until it's all together. This includes their phone number, the style of the dress, color, the bridesmaid name and contact information.
When we have everyone's information, we will then order the dresses.
NOTE: It is *very* important that you set time limitations for your bridesmaids. If one person does not meet the deadline, there could be a rush charge added to your order to ensure that the dresses arrive in time for the wedding.
- What do the bridesmaids need to do?
Call us with their measurements and pay for their gown. (Why...? We need to make purchases less than $250 to be paid in full due to the number of bridesmaids that refuse to pay their remaining balance.)
- What should I do if one of the bridesmaids is pregnant, or will be pregnant at the time of the wedding?
It depends entirely upon how far along she will be. You have two options: you can order a larger size and have it altered (taken in), or order a maternity dress. Jordan carries maternity separates that still come in all of their color choices.
- What if I lose weight before the wedding?
If you are planning on losing a lot of weight then you will want to wait to have the dress altered closer to the wedding date.
However, just like when buying a dress, you may also need to pay a rush charge for alterations if you wait until the last minute. If you have it altered several times, the cost of alterations will also go up.
We recommend losing the weight well before the wedding, then scheduling an alteration one (1) month in advance of the wedding.
- Can Maria make a custom gown?
Yes! If you would like a custom-made gown, call us and schedule an appointment with Maria. She will sit down with you and discuss every aspect of your dream gown; from style, to fabric, to colors, and embroidery.
It is important to bring along some pictures of the things you like. This will allow her to get a sense of your personality and individual style, which plays in a huge part in deciding on a wedding gown.
- Do I need to make an appointment?
Always for Saturdays!
For the weekdays, it is strongly recommended, as we can get busy at almost any time. An appointment puts you at the head of the line. Even if you decide at the last minute to come and visit, we still recommend you call ahead.
We want to ensure that your experience is as positive and as exciting as it should be!
